Mohawk Hardwood Floors
Mohawk is relatively new to the hardwood end of the business compared to many of the other companies listed within the site. Created mostly through acquisitions of other companies in recent years, the company has gained a strong foothold in the carpet retail store end, but not with seasoned hardwood flooring contractors. Asking them for opinions of the brand are likely to bring snaring looks.
Which Engineered Floor Works Best For Me?
Older more experienced installers can be stubborn especially when asked to work with a carpet company’s product. While the Mohawk name itself is the most recognized one in the flooring business, change takes time. The attitude is not any different with pros, considering most of their product lines at one time were manufactured overseas or through other mills scattered here and there.
A few interesting products the company offers include an engineered product named Heart Pine in their Antique Cipriani line. Elm and Chesnut are also referenced in a five inch wide plank. All are on the medium to dark side in color with added authenticity in staves (shown below) carved into the surface.
For the do it yourself market, Mohawk does have one advantage with the addition of the UniClic floating installation method. Benefits offered create a faster, less troublesome installation with engineered products.
I've heard of no significant quality issues to speak of with Mohawk. Owner of the patented UniClic locking floating system that many other companies use, the company does have an enormous number of product offerings. From thinner engineered hardwoods to a variety of solid 3/4 inch.
